"Many people, myself among them, feel better at the mere sight of a book.”
Jane Smiley
I devoured "Pawn" last year and could not wait for the second installment of The Blackcoat Rebellion series by Aimee Carter. And "Captive" did not disappoint. It had me on edge almost thoughout the whole book.
Since it is a sequel I cannot write too much about it. I do not want to give away any spoilers. What I can say, is that the setting changes in this book. I expected something else from "Captive" since I did not foresee this change of setting but I was positively surprised. The story never got boring. The pace is just perfect and Carter knows exactly how to push my buttons.
Kitty did not change much but I have to admit that I was kind of annoyed by her at times. She tends to let her feelings take over. That way she causes problems that make the story more interesting but also could be avoided. What I like a lot about this series is that you do not know who you can trust and who not. And I love the fact that we have a pre-existing couple and NO love-triangle.
I still recommend this book to everyone who likes to read dystopian books. I cannot wait for the last book and I am almost sure that Carter will surprise me again.
